radio narrowcast / installation / public program
documenta 14, Kassel 2017

Narrowcast House is an open radio studio and listening space developed over the course of a year and initiated by artist Anton Kats for documenta14’s aneducation. Located in a disused storefront in Kassel’s Nordstadt, the project developed as an infrastructural connection and ongoing transmission between the city and documenta, in close partnership with local art, cultural and political initiatives and aneducation’s House of Commons.

Developing the practice of Radio Narrowcast, Narrowcast House hosted an interactive programme of listening sessions, performances, concerts, radio broadcasts, screenings, installations, workshops, public meetings and discussions. Throughout documenta 14, the space was activated by artists, musicians, local initiatives, students, school groups and visitors. Its programme ranged from experimental music, radio and collective forms of learning to meetings and projects concerned with migration, democratic participation, urban commons, ecology, food and seed sovereignty. Place of 100 Places: Kassel, the documenta City alone brought together the results of 100 school workshops conducted across Kassel.

Narrowcast House was one of two projects developed by Anton Kats for documenta 14. The second, A-Letheia, took place in Athens.
