Radio Pedio is a contribution to the project Park Fables by Chto Delat & Anton Kats

Using raw materials, traces of history and memory, fragments of identities and experiences, the collective Chto Delat (Tsaplya Olga Egorova, Nina Gasteva, Nikolay Oleynikov, Dmitry Vilensky) and the artist and musician Anton Kats conceived a space of listening and a series of interventions in Athen’s central park Pedion tou Areos. Through a theatrical performance, a field radio station, visual and sonic interventions the project proposed a semi-fictional field of practice concerned with both, the pragmatics and the mysteries in one of the most polysemous public spaces in Athens.

The project comprised ephemeral artistic, recreational and educational interventions conversing with the park’s cultural heritage and its contemporary political presence. Theatrical performances, a radio station and a listening space formed the core of the work, flanked by temporary installations and parallel events. The interventions invited the audience to think, to discuss and to negotiate the complexities of contemporary sociopolitical life. Radio Pedio suggested a focal point of reference and a meeting point during the project. A specially designed radio pavilion amplified through the listening space in the centre of the park has hosted debates and presentations questioning different ways to manage and to use public spaces specifically designed for recreation.
